AFC Wimbledon’s first ever league match ended in disappointment as they came back from two goals down, only to lose at home to Bristol Rovers.

And so the big moment had arrived. Since many will remember AFC Wimbledon’s self-immersion into the depths of misery when they ended the history of the the original club Wimbledon FC, refusing to play under the new rules requiring top flight clubs to play in all seated stadiums, in their case, Milton Keynes by 2004. Since 2002, a newly formed AFC Wimbledon have been climbing their way heftily up the league ladder, starting off at Tier 9 (Combined Counties League – 2002-2003) and reaching Tier 5 (Conference National) within seven years.
