Javier Pastore’s arrival at Paris Saint Germain has brought their spending to €86 million this summer, which should give them a huge advantage come the start of the 2011-2012 Ligue 1 season this weekend. Or will it?
On Tuesday 31st May 2011 the ambition of French football was glitteringly reignited, as Paris Saint Germain announced that the Qatari Investment Authority (QIA) had taken ownership of the club. QIA blew Colony Capital and Butler Capital Partners (other holders of shares at the club) out of the water to acquire a staggering 70% stake, suddenly placing the club amongst some of the richest in Europe. The two former holders had bought shares of the club from television channel ‘Canal+’ in 2006, but this was certain to be a completely different story.
